今天，欧盟在上海世博园上演首个欧洲大陆之外的“欧洲日”庆祝活动。根据《欧盟宪法》，每年5月9日是“欧洲日”，欧洲各地将举行盛大的庆祝活动。

The European Union shares a pavilion with Belgium, which will hold the rotating presidency of the EU in the second half of 2010. The pavilion is in Zone C, near Spain, Poland and Monaco.

The design of a brain cell matches its theme -- "Intelligent Europe."

Today is Europe Day, as it was on May 9 in 1950 when French Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Schuman called for a united Europe, a first step in the establishment of the organization.

The day will be celebrated with a multicultural parade, consisting of 23 artistic troupes and marching bands of around 500 performers from various EU member countries. The parade will launch at 2:30pm and pass by the EU-Belgium Pavilion at 3pm.

An official launch of Europe Day will be held at Europe Square. Two concerts will follow -- pop music at Europe Square and classical music in the Expo Center Red Hall. Tickets to the concerts will be distributed on Europe Square to those who request them.

Some of the European groups in the parade will return to perform in their own national pavilions afterward.

Hungary will join the parade with the Mecsek Folk Dance Ensemble, a troupe founded in 1955. They will perform folk dances and enact an age-old tradition of south Hungary in original costume -- the procession of the bushos -- where people with horned masks chase away winter and welcome spring.

Musicians and dancers from Greece will also mark the coming of spring with a traditional celebration signifying the fertility of the land.
