The internet is playing an important role in our life today. Many of us literally start and end a day with the internet. Through the past 15years internet have overruled all other media and grabbed an unavoidable place in our day to day life. Especially youngsters can't even think of a day without that since they laugh, love, communicate and even cry through the net. Internet banking and E-commerce have become so popular that the elderly people also became enthusiastic to learn at least the basics of internet browsing. Students can depend on the web to check their exam results and to send applications to various universities for higher studies and all that. Business men widely use web for the marketing of their products.

Now, I would like to ask you one thing...What if the internet vanishes from this world in one fine morning? Shocked? I know that it can never be a FINE morning... but still... have you ever imagined whether it can happen or not? Though the question is imaginary the answer is 'YES! It can happen or it may happen'. The reasons for this possibility may be technical, political or economic. What ever it is the point is that there exists a possibility. Can we confidently say that the domain system connecting the internet servers will never crash? Or even a dangerous virus attack can damage all the domain system. The cable network under the sea can be seriously broken due to some geological reasons as it happened once though for a few days.

All these are just possibilities. But what if these possibilities turn out to be a reality? Then... just imagine... we won't be able to access anything in the net... not even our E-mail. Then we won't be able to search Wikipedia, the universal dictionary which has spread its roots into more than 65 languages with the contribution of lots of people from different parts of the world and which helps us quickly to clear our doubts.

And we won't be able to see those precious videos in You-tube any more which always helped us to update with the latest happenings all over the world and provided us with lot of entertainment. You-tube has become the most popular visual media that about 15 hrs. long clips are being added to it per second from various parts of the world. At each and every moment something happens somewhere around the world and at least one camera may be capturing it. Even though it has been captured by a layman and not by a journalist, it can be uploaded in You-tube and the world can see it. In a way, it can be called as citizen journalism. You-tube has become so close to our heart that it has over 33crore viewers per day across the world. Not any of the television channels in the world can claim such a wide range of viewership.

Google is the next attraction in the net. They have launched Google wave recently which attracted youngsters within a short span of time. It can be considered as a 'Wikipage' where all the friends, relatives and colleagues can communicate with you easily. It's like an open platform where anybody within your circle can see and edit a file which is uploaded by you. So you can collaborate easily with people you trust on your work.

In short, the internet has become the spinal chord of human development and civilization. So, if the internet breaks, the flow of life will just stop or it may even flow back to the Stone Age! How horrible it can be!! So, let's pray and hope that it will never happen.
