Shanghai promotes traditional Chinese cuisine
Shanghai is promoting traditional Chinese cuisine as it prepares for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. At the Yuyuan Garden in downtown Shanghai, a gourmet festival is offering a wide range of snacks from Shanghai and nearby cities.
Upon entering the Yuyuan Garden, waves of applause lead visitors to the stall of sesame seed cakes from Juzhou city of Zhejiang Province. Visitors are attracted not only by the aroma.
Cooks are strutting their stuff and making the cakes. Their supreme craftsmanship has been recognized as an item of local intangible heritage.
Steamed buns are always one of Chinese people's favorite snacks. At the festival, you can savor and compare different buns from the different regions of China.
Other popular cuisine featured at the festival includes Zhujiajiao Zongzi, Shaoxing jellied bean curd and noodles.
Seventy-year-old Ma Guoqiang was labelled by some as the " King of Noodles in China". You can see how he lives up to his reputation by watching his performance.
Organizers of the festival are trying to expose more Chinese delicacies to visitors, especially during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
The Gourmet Festival runs until next Sunday.
