Thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets of Paris on Thursday, and many schools remained closed. They are protesting against the government's plan to shed over 11,000 education jobs.
Demonstrators say the government should revise its politics. Since taking office last year, French president Nicolas Sarkozy has tried to trim bureaucracy and lessen the impact of frequent strikes.
