China, Ecuador to continue promoting ties

President Hu Jintao has met for talks with Ecuadorian leader Rafael Correa. Both sides say they'll continue promoting their long term ties.

During the meeting, Hu Jintao announced measures to boost Sino-Ecuadorian relations.

China will promote political trust between the two countries and enhance exchanges and cooperation between governments, legislatures and political parties.

Chinese businesses will be encouraged to invest in Ecuador. The two countries will increase cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy and finance. Ecuadorian companies are also welcome to invest in China.

The two countries plan to deepen exchanges in culture, education, health, tourism and technology.

China is also willing to increase cooperation with Ecuador in international organizations, like the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.

President Correa is seeking Chinese investment in a major airport in Ecuador's Amazon area, where construction will start next year.

Ecuador has received nearly 2 billion US dollars worth of investment from China, making it the leading receiver of Chinese investment in Latin America.

During his one-week visit, Correa is scheduled to meet other top Chinese officials.
