Karimov wins Uzbekistan presidential election

The Central Election Commission in Uzbekistan says the incumbent president, Islam Karimov, has won 88 percent of the vote in the weekend presidential election.

Karimov was running against three other candidates. If re-elected, he will rule the country for another seven years.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe has sent observers to monitor the voting.

69-year-old Karimov became the president of Uzbekistan in 1991.He won a re-election in 2000.
