China plans food safety system

The head of the national quality watchdog says China must establish an effective supervision system for food safety.

Li Changjiang says 15 quality assessment groups from the central government have been dispatched to over 30 areas of the country. The groups are monitoring eight categories including produce licenses, food safety tracking systems, raw material safety certificates, and quarantined food labelling.

Li says a stable, effective nationwide supervision system is expected to be set up based on the experiences of local agencies.
