Thais kick off Buddhist New Year
In Bangkok, tourists and local Thais have taken to the streets, armed with buckets, water guns and plenty of enthusiasm. They were marking the start of the Buddhist New Year.
While the holiday does not officially get underway until Sunday, the Khao San Road tourist area got a head start on the festivities. Music was playing and so were the crowds just after midday on Saturday. Since the next four days are considered official holidays, Thais across the country will soak each other with water and high spirits.
The tradition started with youngsters pouring water over their elders as a sign of respect. But over the years, the festival of Songkran has become an all-out party, with dousing in the afternoon and music and merriment in the evenings. 【已有很多网友发表了看法,点击参与讨论】【对英语不懂,点击提问】【英语论坛】【返回首页】
