Japanese PM meets Chinese FM

Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda has met with China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Tokyo. Yang's visit precedes a scheduled trip next month by Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Yang Jiechi forwarded to Fukuda a letter from President Hu Jintao. In the letter, President Hu said he hopes his visit will deepen overall relations between China and Japan and take strategic ties to a new level. Fukuda said the forthcoming visit by President Hu will be of great significance, and that the Japanese government is looking forward to it.

Yang Jiechi says the visit by Fukuda to China last year has pushed forward the development and healthy momentum of Sino-Japanese ties. Fukuda also expressed his hope that Beijing will hold a successful Olympics, and he offered his country's support.
