Quake Tremor felt in Bangkok

BANGKOK, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The earthquake in China's Sichuan province on Monday afternoon sent tremor to Bangkok as many tall buildings in the Thai Capital could feel the shake, local newspaper reported.

Around 1:30 p.m. local time (0630 GMT), many residents of some high-rise buildings in Bangkok's central Silom, Sathorn and Sukhomvit districts reported that they felt tremble, local newspaper Thai Rath said on its website.

Some buildings also evacuated tenants for fear of aftershocks, the report said.

The Mineral Resources Department of Thailand said it will continuously monitor the shakes and report it to the public.

A major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted China's Sichuan province at 2:28 p.m. local time (0628 GMT) Monday. The epicenter of the quake was located 31.0 degrees north latitude and 103.4 degrees east longitude, the State Seismological Bureau of China said.
