SED to focus on energy, investing
Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan arrived in Washington on Monday afternoon to attend the fourth round of the China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue. The President of the US-China Business Council, John Frisbie, said the dialogue provides an effective, long-term framework for the two sides to solve current issues.
John Frisbie says the SED is the most important negotiation mechanism between the US and China for economic and trade topics. He notes that tremendous progress has been achieved in the past three rounds of dialogue.
He says this year, the two sides will focus on energy, investing and other key issues. The two sides are able to coordinate current macro-economic policies using a long-term perspective.
Frisbie says energy and environmental protection will top the agenda of this year's talks. He says the US and China have common interests in these areas. And that they should work out more specific and feasible means of cooperation, including technology transfer and investing.
Frisbie says continued opening up of investment markets between the two sides will be mutually beneficial. He expressed the hope that the two countries will further reduce investment barriers to facilitate healthier development of economic ties.
The 2-day SED will begin on Tuesday. It will be co-chaired by Vice Premier Wang and US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, about a 30-minute drive from Washington, DC.
