Philippine ferry search halts until next week
In the Philippines, the search for hundreds of bodies trapped in a capsized ferry has been postponed until next week. That's because officials are trying to remove 10 tons of toxic pesticide on the vessel. The deadly chemical was not discovered until Friday, the fifth day of rescue operations. Officials say the vessel's owner will be held accountable for failing to alert them about the 400 boxes of toxic endosulfan.
Divers pulled out from the disaster site are undergoing tests for symptoms of toxic ingestion. Meanwhile, many relatives of victims are running out of patience, hoping to see the bodies of their dead loved ones. The ferry "Princess of the Stars" ran aground during a typhoon last Saturday, overturning off Sibuyan island in the central Philippines. 865 passengers and crew were on board. But only 56 survivors have been found.
