Nine US soldiers killed by Taliban

It was one of the worst days for foreign troop casualties in Afghanistan since 2001.

Taliban insurgents killed nine US soldiers in an assault on an Afghan army and NATO outpost on Sunday.

The attack happened in the northeastern province of Kunar, close to the border with Pakistan. Fifteen NATO troops and four Afghan soldiers were also wounded.
