Chinese President writes back to thank US students´ support to Olympics and quake relief
Chinese President Hu Jintao has written back to students of a U.S. high school to thank them for their "heartfelt" condolences and sympathy to victims and survivors in China's May 12 earthquake.
He thanked them for their letter and for their donation to children in the affected region. President Hu wants young people in both China and the US to strengthen their exchanges and to do more to promote friendly ties between their countries.
Here's what else he said:
Dear Mr. Andrew Soucy and members of the delegation of the Londonderry High School Marching Band.
I read your letter carefully and was moved by the warm and kind feelings expressed in the letter. Thank you for your heartfelt condolences to people affected by the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan, China, and for your sincere donation to children in the quake zone.
As you are aware, the earthquake disaster has claimed many precious lives and caused tremendous losses. In the face of the disaster, the Chinese Government and people launched a courageous rescue and relief campaign with strong unity and perseverance.
There have emerged many young heroes of your age in the fight against the earthquake. People of the United States and many other countries offered us valuable support and assistance and we are deeply touched by your friendship.
