Rockets Hold Off Lakers for 95-93 Victory

The opening night of the NBA has been a dramatic one. Shane Battier's 3-pointer with just 2.5 seconds to go made it one to remember for the Houston Rockets who beat the Los Angeles Lakers 95-93. Meanwhile, the reigning champions San Antonio Spurs received their championship rings and a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, while the Utah Jazz enjoyed an easy win over the Golden State Warriors.

Booed before the game, Kobe Bryant won back the fans with his stunning performances.

Tracy McGrady was also hot, scoring 30 points for the Houston Rockets. And, luck was also on the side of the away team, with an own basket by Luke Walton -- even the Rockets players couldn't believe it.

Yao Ming's hook shot gave the Rockets a 90-80 lead with two minutes and 14 seconds remaining in the game.

But Bryant and Derek Fisher then surged with a dramatic 13-nothing run for the Lakers. And Fisher's jumper tied the game at 92 with 13 seconds remaining.

But, Shane Battier hit the tie-breaking 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds left. A fantastic shot! And a 95-93 opening win for the Rockets.

Yao Ming said, "We are lucky to win the game. And, we should not waste our advantage and won the game at the last second. I hope we won't do this anymore. "
