Photos on Beijing Olympic Games exhibited in Brussels

More than 80 pictures on Beijing's Olympic Games in 2008 was exhibited in Brussels on Thursday.

"With more than 80 elegant and beautiful pictures here, you will find yourself experiencing the oriental civilization of Beijing, an ancient city with vitality, boasting of its long history yet changing every day," said Chinese Ambassador to the European Union Guan Chengyuan at the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition.

Aimed to provide Belgians an opportunity to learn more about Beijing and the preparatory work of the 2008 Olympic Games, the "New Beijing, Great Olympics" photo show includes pictures of a wide range of aspects about the City of Beijing, such as everyday life, environment, climate, cultural and scientific activities, historical monuments and tourist attractions.

Photos on construction of sports venues were also exhibited in the 30-day photo show.

Belgian spectators can also see pictures of cheers and thrill of Beijingers at the moment when the city was declared to win the right of hosting the 29th Olympic Games on July 13, 2001.

A Belgian Chinese, Lin Jian, told Xinhua after watching the pictures that the smile and excitement of the old and young, men and women were from the heart, not acting.

She said that Beijing had changed a lot in recent years, the air and water there were much clearer and cleaner.

The Chinese government has vowed to host a green, high-tech and people's Olympics in Beijing.

The theme slogan for Beijing Olympic Games, "One World One Dream" is a good expression of the strong commitment of the Chinese government and people to world peace, development, harmony and progress," Guan told hundreds of guests.

"All the preparatory work is underway smoothly and effectively," he said.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Qiyue also spoke at the ceremony, extending warm welcome to Belgians to Beijing to know better of Chinese culture, experience the amplification of modern Olympic spirits in China and great enthusiasm of the Chinese people's participation in the Olympic movement.
