Beijing Olympics tickets sold by lottery again
The second phase of domestic ticket sales for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games began yesterday here in the capital. A lottery system is now in place similar to the one used in the first round.
Ticket sales for next year's Beijing Olympics was suspended on October 30th. It has now resumed with a slightly different policy from "first come, first served" to "application, lottery and confirmation". No priority will be given to any application. On Monday, some buyers still queued early to try their luck.
Song Wei, Beijing resident, said, "I came here very early and that demonstrates my eagerness. I know I can come later because it is a lottery policy, but I hope I can get some tickets successfully this time. I have failed to get any tickets with the previous two attempts."
The Olympic organizing committee, BOCOG has restricted the number of tickets that each person can buy from 50 to eight. Each person can submit just one booking form for no more than two competition sessions - and for each session, people can apply for no more than four tickets. Staff are optimistic about phase two.
Xu Chen, General Manager of Olympic Affairs Dept., Bank of China, "The preparation work for the second phase of ticket sales was well done. BOCOG has drawn on the lessons learnt from the system crash, and has adjusted the sales policy. It has changed from "First come, first served" to a lottery."
BOCOG decided to sell tickets for the Paralympics ceremonies at a low price to ensure a packed stadium.
