Winter Games: Wang Meng claims gold

At the 11th National Winter Games, Turin Olympic winner Wang Meng is the gold medalist in the women's short-track speed skating pursuit.

Speed skating pursuit has been an unofficial event ever since the last National Winter Games. The sport displays the athletes' independent skating ability. Wang Meng finished in one minute, 8.784 seconds to claim the gold medal.

Curling events start

The curling events began Thursday morning. In the women's competition, Qiqihar easily thrashed Mudanjiang 18-2. And in the other match, Harbin had a one point win over Yichun. In the men's event, Harbin defeated its opponents by a huge margin.

Xia Lina lifts gold in women's slalom

And in the Women's Slalom, Xia Lina of Qiqihar was the star. She was the best at women's super-G last Sunday, and took third place in the slalom's opening leg. But with her excellent performance in the second round, she claimed her second Alpine skiing gold. Chinese national team standout Miao Liyan was on top after the first try, but she failed to finish in the second run, ending her Winter Games journey without winning gold.

PLA win cross-country skiing

Turning to cross-country skiing, in the men's 4 X 10 kilometer relay, third leg skiier Chen Haibin ran the fastest lap to drive the People's Liberation Army to first place. And the PLA women clinched the female title in the 4 x 5 kilometer relay.
