World´s largest swimming pool opens in Chile

Okay well how's this for BIG? In South America, a coastal resort sees a new and rather hard to miss addition a swimming pool a kilometer in length. At San Alfonso del Mar resort on the Chilean coast, the phrase "a couple of laps around the pool" takes on new meaning.

Consecrated by the Guinness Book as the world's largest  swimming pool, a "length" at the resort's pool is more  than a kilometer.

Consecrated by the Guinness Book as the world's largest swimming pool, a "length" at the resort's pool is more than a kilometer. The water is up to 35 meters deep making it much easier to navigate on one of the resort's sailboats or kayaks.

Sigfrido Grimau, the administrator at the posh resort that's spread out along Chile's coast west of the capital, Santiago, is quite proud of this latest addition.

Sigfrido Grimau, resort administrator, said, "This pool won the Guinness Record based on its size. It has a capacity of 250 million liters of water, which is equal to 6,000 pools of medium size. It's length is 1,136 meters long as recognized by the Guinness record."
