S. Africa on track to host World Cup

Preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup continue apace. Host nation South Africa held a joint air and ground interception operational exercise on Monday.

The event was a part of ongoing simulation exercises, where various security agents get to display their state of readiness in securing various venues during the World Cup.

Deputy police commissioner Andr Pruis told the media that preparations were in full swing and that South Africa will be ready to provide FIFA with a detailed security plan by June 30.

Andr Pruis, Deputy police commissioner, said, "Well I mean South Africa in not a target for terrorism, however, we take into account that you will have many countries and many people inside South Africa that could be a target for terrorism, so we co-operate with many countries in the world and we do have contingency plans in place to deal with any event."
