New Asian talents make debut at SIFF

10 films were premiered for the New Asian Talent Award competition Wednesday. The films' directors come from six countries and regions, including four from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

Ganglamedo by Chinese mainland director, Dai Wei, is a love story set in Tibet. Dai traveled 13 times to Tibet to make her first film. She says Gaglamedo is to be the first of a trilogy of Tibetan love stories. Another Chinese mainland film nominated for this year's New Asian Talent Award is Lucky Dog by Zhang Meng.

Taiwan Director Lin Shuyu and Lin Yuxian, are joining the festival competition for the first time. They say they are just happy to be nominated and the final results won't be that important.

Other directors vying for the New Asian Talent Award come from Singapore, Japan, Korea and Nepal. The award aims to discover promising film talents who have directed just one or two films. This year's winner will be announced Friday.
