HK residents says "Ole" to Spanish culture

As Chinese culture goes around the world, here at home people are embracing culture and diversity from many countries.

Whether it's the thunderous clamour of flamenco, the exotic flavor of tapas or an earthy glass of red wine, Spanish culture is meeting eager acceptance in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Vibrant colours and intoxicating flavours serve to draw some Chinese to Spanish culture. Others who come are just curious. After "the year of Spain" in 2007, many Chinese continue to enjoy the fiesta of food, film, flamenco and sculpture.

At a dance studio in one residential neighbourhood, young Asian women meet once a week to learn to dance the flamenco. Stamping their feet, discovering the vibrant sensuality of the dance, the ladies approach their lessons with a seriousness of purpose.

Spanish wine is also pouring into Asia. That's especially so in Hong Kong. The government has slashed import duties on soft liquor.

At an international wine expo, crowds gather around the section dedicated to Spanish wine. Oenophiles sample reds and whites during a wine tasting, exclusively offering Spanish wines.
