US gymnasts prepare for Olympic trials

The United States' top gymnasts are gathered in Philadelphia for the 2008 Olympic trials. Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin, both rated top contenders for the women's all-round title in Beijing, are expected to enter the spotlight with their growing rivalry.

Johnson won the all-round title in the 2007 World Championships. While Liukin won the 2005 world title in the balance beam and the uneven bars. Both insist their rivalry ends at the gym door.

Nastia Liukin, US gymnast said "When we're in the gym we're two competitors but outside the gym we're just like two teenagers and we talk about other things. I think that's what its like for everyone on the team. We don't talk about the gym too much and I think that helps a lot because it kind of helps your mind relax from the gym when you're not in the gym."

Johnson was reported to be upbeat this week despite having to evacuate her training gym in Iowa recently due to heavy flooding.

Shawn Johnson, US gymnast said "I love what I do and I'm able to enjoy it. I mean you see a lot of girls getting burned out and not enjoying their career and their sport anymore and I feel blessed that I'm able to compete at such a high level and I love every minute of it."

There's a big blow on men's side. David Sender, a member of the 2006 World Championship squad, suffered an ankle injury during a practice floor exercise on Wednesday and will have to hope for a quick recovery.
