HAVANA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Cuban judoka Driulis Gonzalez, who has won four times Olympic medals, announced her retirement on Tuesday in the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008, electronic media said.
"I reaffirm it, this was my last competition," Gonzalez said, who fought till the last minute for her fifth medal, electronic media Jit said.
In the combat for the bronze medal in the 63kg category, Gonzalez, 34, lost against the Dutch Elisabeth Willeboordse in gold rule, for one warning.
"I didn't finish as I wanted and many people wished, but l fought till the end, I sought the triumph and it was not possible to reach that medal. I don't like to justify myself, I lost," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez, who is the best judoka of Latin America said that "I feel said, but at the same time happy because I have performed a very beautiful sports career, I have made all what I wanted in judo, but unfortunately I couldn't reach my fifth Olympic medal, which I also aspire as a prize for myself."
Gonzalez has one gold medal in Atlanta 1996, silver in Sydney 2000 and two bronze in Barcelona 1992 and Athens 2004.
