US health care giant Johnson and Johnson is an Olympic Worldwide partner. It's just launched a project for children in earthquake-stricken areas in China. As we hear from Guan Xin, Olympic participation is also allowing the company to increase its presence in the Chinese market.
Johnson & Johnson announced its psychological rehabilitation assistance project in its pavilion in the Olympic Green. The project will be implemented in quake-hit Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces, to provide mental health education, psychological counseling and treatment for children.
This is part of the company's move to enlarge its caring and community service in China. The company says sponsoring the Beijing Olympics offers an unique opportunity. This was the first time for Johnson&Johnson to sponsor an Olympic Games as a global partner. The company says the timing was right.
At the same time, the company is speeding up expansion of its market share in China. A month ago, it acquired Dabao, a famous domestic skin-care brand. The acquisition is expected to greatly enlarge its distribution channels in the country.
China's health-care market is growing by double digits, and by 2015 it is expected to reach 80 billion US dollars. Analysts say, although sponsoring Olympics is a huge investment, the Beijing Olympic Games are particularly attractive to sponsors because of the size of the market.
