Stuffed这个字有好几种解释，有时是指装的满满的。在某种情况下是吃得过饱的意思。那么，a stuffed shirt 是什么意思呢？A stuffed shirt是指那些爱摆架子，表现得神气十足的人。对于这种人最好是敬而远之。这种人既傲慢，又顽固，自以为了不起，他们参加任何社交活动都不受人欢迎。我们现在来举个例子吧：

My boss is a stuffed shirt: all he talks about is how important his ancestors are, how he was number one in his class at his university, and the wonderful things he thinks he's done for our company. 我的老板老是爱摆架子，吹嘘自己。他一开口就是说他的祖先的地位有多么重要，他在大学念书时又如何成为他们班里的第一名，还自称对我们公司做出了多大的贡献等等。

“鬼城”ghost town

要是你看过美国的西部电影的话，你很可能看到过那种被遗弃的城镇。美国人把它们叫做：ghost town。Ghost town就是一些被遗弃的城镇，也被称作“鬼城”。一百多年前，成千上万的人都争先恐后到美国西部去淘金，想一夜就变成富翁。当时那里的小城镇都很繁荣，后来，随着淘金活动的结束，人们也就逐个地离开了那里到别处去谋生，这些城镇也就没有生命了。下面的例句是一个人在形容ghost town的凄凉情景：

"These old ghost towns can give you a scary feeling, with the buildings falling apart and the only sound is the moaning of the wind blowing through the deserted streets." 被遗弃的城镇真让你感到害怕。那里的房子东倒西歪，唯一能听到的声音就是在那没有人的街道上风吹的呜呜响声。
