12月1日是世界艾滋病日。2011年12月1日是第24个“世界艾滋病日”，今年的世界艾滋病日主题是“Getting to Zero”。截至2010年底，全球HIV携带者总是达3400万人。到2011年底，我国的艾滋患者感染者总数约为78万。

Falling on Dec. 1, the World AIDS Day has its theme of "Getting to Zero" this year. Zero New HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS-Related Deaths.

At the end of 2010, an estimated 34 million people were living with HIV worldwide, up 17% from 2001. This reflects the continued large number of new HIV infections and a significant expansion of access to antiretroviral therapy, which has helped reduce AIDS-related deaths, especially in more recent years.

China has a combined total of 346,000 registered HIV infected people and AIDS patients, and the actual number is predicted to reach 780,000 by the end of 2011, according to recent figures from a panel of experts.

截至2010年底，全球艾滋病病毒携带者总数大约3400万人，比2001年增加17%。这反映了艾滋病病毒感染者的数量依然很多，但同时接受抗逆转录病毒治疗的人数也大幅增加，艾滋病病毒死亡的人数因此减少，尤其是在近几年。

来自专家组的数据显示，中国目前的艾滋病感染者和病人总数约为34.6万，估计到2011年底，实际数字将达到78万。

文中的World AIDS Day就是“世界艾滋病日”。AIDS的全称是Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome，即“获得性免疫功能丧失综合症”。HIV的全称是Human Immunodeficiency Virus，即“人体免疫缺损病毒”，也就是我们所说的“艾滋病病毒”。HIV infected people是“艾滋病感染者”，AIDS patient是“艾滋病患者”。
