Independence character

I read some psychological books lately, it says about independence character, the one that so independence may not need anyone to stick to.

Take one example, we all think that divorce is a bad thing, that is kind of bad luck in one lifetime. The book says: If one is independence in character, he may not thinks about how other people think of his marriage as failure, maybe he thinks it is kind of release, as long as he is happy with current life, what other think maybe have nothing to do with him.

The people that are not so independence in character, they may think from different direction. For example, they will think: Oh, that is too bad for divorce, what will other people think, they may think I have problem, they may look down upon me, the life is already a failure, what is the meaning of living, I would rather kill myself etc.

Very different from the first one, as they don’t care at all, they care only about what they think, what they care, what they concern, not others.

Another example, as the leader of the army, the one that with great concern about others will think: That is very cruel to send the solider, they may be killed, and their family will be sad. So it is hard to make the decision go for the battle. But for the one not concern at all, it is very easy to make the decision to go for the battle and not think about the soldier’s life. So it must be easier for the second one to win the battle.

I don’t know it is right or wrong that only concern ourselves and totally ignore others, but it seems a good way to handle this life.
