If a World Lacks Plants
想象一下这个世界如果没有植物会是怎么样的呢？
Imagine a world in which there was suddenly no plants-----a world in which human beings could no longer find crops, vegetables, trees, grasses and even flowers and fruits. Try to imagine the consequences of such a transformation.
People might lose the sense of green: since green is mostly produced by plants, without plants there would be likely that when you opened the door, what you saw was buildings, roads, vehicles and people. Man would have no idea of the beauty and the peace of nature. People would suffer from losing a large variety of foods: there was no rice, no wheat, no corn, no cabbage, no apple, no orange etc. Animals in natural environment would soon vanish: in a world without plants, it’s impossible for them to survive. Thus human beings would have no notion of tiger, lion, panda etc. Photosynthesis would not exist: there would be no process of photosynthesis, no inhaling carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. The world would be full of polluted air: there no longer existed plants to balance the real world.
In such a world, the chances that human beings would survive are next to zero, because plants are the basic instrument of our survival and adaptation. Plants structure the world for us in important ways. Trees, flowers and other plants all are wonders in the world. They provide us with a beautiful nature and a peaceful environment. They foster animals in natural environment and supply them with a place to live in. Only with plants can they survive in the world. Moreover, through photosynthesis plants balance and purify the air and thus human beings and the world can reasonably exist. However, in the past human beings actually took little notice of plants and even destroyed them. Accordingly, species of rare plants and animals, such as North American seal, Japanese wolf etc, have completely disappeared.
