人类通过语言来交流，各个国家也有自己的语言，目前来讲，英语是世界第一大语言。当然中文在世界范围内越来越普及了。
大家可以想象一下，我们这个世界如果没有语言，那会是怎么样的呢？
If the world lacked language
Imagine a world in which there was suddenly no language—a world in which human beings could not communicate with each other clearly, could record any history or knowledge, could not think. Try to imagine the consequences of such a transformation. People might not be able to develop the modern civilization: no efficient way to make themselves understood, neither record to pass knowledge, they would easily misunderstand each other and start to fight. They could not think so that little invention would appear, because no tools can help them to remember, to ratiocinate anything.
Society would soon be fragmented, replaced by small coveys of people, which are just like other animals. Only humane instinct for survival and bringing up offspring would exist. Most of the great achievement would mean nothing as they could not be explained to anyone. Then the development of human society would stop at a time, since complicated things could not be explained nor be taught to any one.
In such a world, the chances of human species would have the modern civilization are next to zero, because language is the basic element to distinguish human beings from other animals. As human beings, we express ourselves, exchange information with language. True we can use gesture or picture to explain some objects, to show some simple process of simple work, there are far more things such as feelings, complicated logical academic theories can’t be explained by them. Language is necessary for all these communication.
The story of Indian wolf child shows that without language, human being would learn little things more than the natural instinct for survival. No matter how language became used by human beings, it’s now a necessary instrument for the civilization.
