PBOC: China may expand RMB trading band

China's central bank chief says that the yuan's trading band may be widened if necessary, although current settings appear sufficient.

Zhou Xiaochuan expressed satisfaction with the floating band at least for now. But he added that China is open to expanding this, as part of moves to increase flexibility in its exchange rate regime.

However, he did not give a timeframe, saying that any further developments must depend on the global economic situation.
