Beijing Int´l Airport cuts food prices

Consumers who've long complained about how expensive it is to eat in Chinese airports may now have reason to cheer up. Beijing's Capital International Airport is making eating out before flying a much more affordable experience.

There are now as many as 43 restaurants in the airport's two terminals, 25 of which are food chains. Airport authorities say food prices in chain stores will be cut to levels no different from those charged at the same chains in Beijing's central business district. The remaining restaurants have also agreed to adjust their prices, to bring them closer to what is paid at similar restaurants in the city.

Zhang Wei, Board Chairman of Food & Beverage Co. of Beijing Capital Int'l Airport said "The price adjustment will cover 248 dishes, accounting for 11 percent of all food sold. Some of them will be cut by as much as 45 percent."

Hao Xiaolin, General Manager of Food & Beverage Co. of Beijing Capital Int'l Airport said "If passengers find differences in prices or services between the chain restaurants here and those in the city, they can complain to the business management center in the airport."

The airport says all price adjustments will be completed by the end of the year, and additional investments to upgrade the restaurants will be made by mid-December.
