Farming recovers after snow disaster
The weather appears to be improving in southern China, a region pounded by recent snow storms. That's giving farmers the chance to start ploughing again.

The weather appears to be improving in southern China, a region pounded by recent snow storms.(Xinhua photo) | Daxu county is a key vegetable production base in Guilin city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The heavy snow almost destroyed all 2-thousand hectares of farmland. The local government has provided farmers with seeds for fast growing vegetables such as lettuce.
Pig farms in Guizhou Province suffered heavy losses one in Kaiyang county lost more than 14 hundred pigs in about ten days. Local authorities are carrying out quarantine measures to prevent diseases. The provincial government has allocated over 30 million yuan to support pig farmers.
Technicians in Xinye county, Henan Province are helping farmers to reduce their losses.
Agricultural Technician said, "The roots of these cucumbers are frozen. Injecting sugar into them can enhance photosynthesis."
In Nanchong city, Sichuan Province, a warm water irrigation method is becoming popular.
Chen Shiwei, County Government Official, said, "The farmers only need a big cauldron to make warm water and a pump, and then bury some pipes underground."
Liu Zhongyi, Farmer, said, "The method can help save seventy percent of my losses."
