Traffic to peak as holiday ends

Traffic across China is expected to reach a peak as tens of millions of people return to school and work. The Ministry of Communications estimates 61-million people were on the move on Saturday - a 2.5 percent increase over last year.

Additional buses have been put onto the roads in major transportation hubs, including Changsha in central Hunan province and Guangzhou in southern Guangdong province.

On Saturday, 900,000 people travelled by boat, a three percent increase over last year. Airlines say tickets at major manufacturing-related cities are sold out and they've started adding new flights to fill the surging demand.
