Recruitment becomes tougher in labor market

Some of the country's more labor-intensive companies are finding it difficult this year to find enough migrant workers to meet their needs. And this is the case even for big names offering better pay and generous benefits.

Some of the country's more labor-intensive companies are finding it difficult this year to find enough migrant workers to meet their needs.

The post-holiday season is usually a time when there is a strong demand for labor. But in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, even big-name companies say they just can't recruit enough migrant workers.

One recruiter said "Our company is among the top 500 across the world, but we're still finding it hard to recruit enough people."

Another recruiter said "We have increased salaries considerably. And once hired, we also provide good benefits. But there are still too few people to hire."

And just to make matters worse, many potential workers say they are in no hurry to find employment.

One job seeker said "There's no need to find a job in just one or two days. There is no need to rush. I will take it slow this year."

While other migrant workers are no longer satisfied with what they consider basic, low-grade work. They hope to find a job that will give them the chance to improve themselves.

Another job seeker said "I'm looking for a new job, because the old one didn't give me enough chances for promotion."

Another job seeker said "Of course I want to find a better job. The new post has got to be at higher level than the old one."

But authorities say that while there is a labor shortage, it is only temporary, and is also not serious.
