Kosovo Serbs demonstrate in Mitrovica

Serbs protesting Kosovo's declaration of independence attacked UN police guarding a key bridge in northern Kosovo.

Some five thousand Serbs rallied in the town of Mitrovica for a fifth day. The Kosovska Mitrovica bridge over the Ibar River has long been a flashpoint for tensions in Kosovo's restive north. Mitrovica's ethnic Albanians live in the south with Serb districts in the north. About 100 riot police blocked attempts by demonstrators to cross Kosovska Mitrovica bridge.

Restrictions preventing inhabitants of Serbia from entering Kosovo were put in place earlier on Friday.
