Global mobile phone users top 3.3 bln
More than 3.3 billion people now use mobile phones. A new report from the International Telecommunication Union shows the biggest increase in cell-phone use over the past two year has been in Africa. More than two-thirds of all mobile subscribers were from developing countries by the end of 2007.
In its report, the union says the trend suggests developing countries are catching up to developed countries. Mobile subscription growth stood at 39 percent annually in Africa between 2005 to 2007, and 28 percent in Asia over the same period. India and China added 150 and 140 million new subscribers respectively.
