Shuttle Discovery docks at space station

Space shuttle Discovery has docked at the international space station to deliver Japan's first orbital laboratory.

The two statecrafts soared 340 kilometers above the South Pacific when Commander Mark Kelly pulled up to the space station and parked. Discovery carried Japan's Kibo Lab - an 11 meter long, 16-ton scientific workshop.

The shuttle's seven astronauts and three station residents will work together to install the bus-size lab on Tuesday. The spacecraft also ferried a new crew member and critical equipment to repair the outpost's only toilet.
