Beijing gets ATP 500 series

Beijing will be among ten other cities to host the revamped ATP 500 series events, which are currently one tier below the nine Masters Series tournaments. The 500 series offers 500 ranking points to the winners, while the Masters Series offers a thousand points. The prize money for the 500 series will be raised to 20.7 million US dollars.

Zhang Junhui, China Open General Manager, said, "After four years of efforts, Beijing has upgraded China Open for both the men's and the women's events. This is a crucial step toward the realization of our goal, which is to become one of the most important world tournaments, Or as we call it: the fifth Grand Slam."
