Iran´s president speaks at inauguration

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has urged the new members of the country's parliament to stand up to pressure from what he called Iran's "enemies". Ahmadinejad also said Iran's mission is to stand against the "world's oppressive foundations and systems."

Tuesday's inauguration ceremony is the country's eighth round of parliament since the 1979 Islamic revolution. The ceremony was attended by high ranking Iranian officials, including military commanders and foreign ambassadors. The 290 incoming parliament members took oaths on the Quran to be committed to the parliament's principles and charter.

The Iranian parliament or Islamic Consultative Assembly election was held in two rounds.
