Beijing guarantees Olympic food safety

Reporters have been invited to visit food-processing facilities for the 2008 Olympics.

Journalists visited food-processing plants, as well as the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine's supervising center.

This center can check the production process of over 1,000 food companies. It can also monitor the quarantine of imported food.

The General Administration has also signed memos with BOCOG on food catering and emergency plans.

Li Yuanping, Director of General Admin. of Quality Supervision, said, "We want to reassure all the athletes, referees, and visitors that the Chinese government is confident and capable of guaranteeing the safety of food and other products, and they can all come to China with their minds at ease."

The Beijing Huadu Broiler Company has its own certification laboratories. Its plant processes 36 million chickens every year, and food safety is its top priority.
