Football fans riot in Italy after one killed by police

Tragedy in Italy, a police officer in Tuscany has shot and killed a football fan while trying to break up a scuffle between supporters of rival clubs. This then sparked violence at the stadium and attacks at police stations.

Outside Rome's Olympic stadium, fans threw firecrackers and overturned garbage bins, in clashes with police. It is reported that 10 policemen were injured. A group of around 200 people, some of them wielding rocks and clubs, also attacked a police barracks in the city, setting cars on fire and smashing the building's windows.

Three top league matches were cancelled earlier after a police officer killed a 26-year old man during scuffles between supporters of clubs Lazio and Juventus. Gabriele Sandri was a Lazio fan and a disc jockey from Rome.

He was accidently shot in the neck while sitting in a car at the rest area along the A1 Autostrada highway, about 200 kilometres north of Rome. Police said the shooting was accidenta
